Sapling Forest series

This series of oil paintings explores the contrasts in Australia’s woodland forests: the calm and stability lent by the clean verticals of sapling gum trees; against the texture and tangle of the forest floor - also, earth tones and blue-gum greys against the vibrant colours of Australia’s native flowers.

These pieces are full of delicate, expressive brushwork and organic textures.

Without beginning or end, the tree trunks pull us into the continuum of the forest: past to future; earth to sky. They also bring a sense of contemporary design. Around them, the mess of undergrowth is warm, soft and grounding, like a beloved family room.

The style of these pieces lends them to long, wide shapes or tall thin verticals, which have made them popular wall art for above a dining table or lounge, or narrow hallway decor. Ask about a commission for a special space.
