Sapling Forest series
This series of oil paintings explores the contrasts in Australia’s woodland forests: the calm and stability lent by the clean verticals of sapling gum trees; against the texture and tangle of the forest floor - and earthy neutrals and blue-gum greys against the vibrant colours of Australia’s native flowers.
Without beginning or end, the tree trunks pull us into the continuum of the forest: past to future; earth to sky. They also bring a sense of contemporary design. Around them, the mess of undergrowth is warm, soft and grounding, like a beloved family room. The series lends itself to extra-wide or tall thin shapes, which have made them popular for above a dining table or lounge, or narrow hallway decor.
