From my studio in Canberra, Australia I create ethereal, semi-abstract nature paintings that find peace and beauty in the cosy mess that is the forest understorey. We who live among dry woodlands under the searing Australian sun, share a deep love of their contrasts, their warm earthy tones, and bare and brittle textures - and are ever grateful for the promise of cool shade. Colours, details and thoughts are all muted under the heat, until there is nothing but here and now…

A gentle nature bath in the hot, dry woodlands of Australia where the heat melts away thoughts, and the silence of a still thicket fills the mind. Under summer sun the colours, too, are muted to pretty pastel and neutral tones - and the promise of coolness in the shadows.

You know that feeling of curling up in a Chesterfield sofa? A cosy nook of luxury and warmth that forms to your body? Well, this pocket of nurturing forest, and those rich tones of leather and mocha reminded me of just that.
That’s why I call my artworks ‘cosy wild places’; because to me they feel like coming home. The forest floor is the ancestral home for we Homo sapiens, bringing the soul-memory of 300,000 years of thriving there, right? We’ve always been connected, it’s remembering.
Shipping Australia-wide. This piece comes to you as a roll of painted canvas fabric (high quality linen, actually) in a mailing tube. This saves metres of plastic bubblewrap (Mother Nature thanks you!), and makes delivery far easier to handle for you. Any framer can easily prepare it for hanging, by attaching to a backing frame then adding the decorative outer frame of your choice. The price is lower on my 'unstretched' paintings to accommodate the extra step.

Gum trees announce their Spring growth with a scrumptious, visceral crimson tinge. I adore the combination of deep red against grey-green eucalyptus leaves. The pop of bright yellow wattle adds even greater sense of new life coursing through the forest. One can imagine a hub of the most delicate activity from all the bees and insects enjoying these blooms.
