Hollows 9 - Antechinus
Oil on FSC board. Ready to hang unframed. 76cm x 101cm.
As I explored nesting hollows more and more, I realised some holes in tree trunks were much lower to the ground and not suitable for small birds. To my delight, it turned out these are ideally placed for adorable little marsupial antechinus, or mardo - which looks a lot like a mouse. Can you spot it?
The Hollows collection celebrates snug sanctuaries and shelters provided directly by the forest. They tell of shared space; of creatures who are off about their business with no reference to we humans, who are left but to wonder, wide eyed and delighted, at who might return to rest - safe, warm and fat-bellied - once we've looked away.
This piece is done on pine board with its own backing frame and deep, straight wooden edges for a sturdy artwork and a polished look. The board provided a lovely smooth surface to really get the best of the water effects.
