Oil on canvas, 60 × 150 cm.
It's Spring and a new purple-pea wildflower rambles through the forest bringing a blush of life and colour to the muted remnants of winter.
I find such comely warmth in this kind of brittle Australian woodland with its unkempt beauty and humility. I'm endlessly intrigued how stark sunlight creates a palette of neutral earth tones with flashes of colour when the wildflowers and parrots move through.
This piece is created with multiple layers of wash and rag-work to build layers and texture, finished with brushwork in oil paint.
